About the Project

Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition is an ongoing project of enhancement packages that makes the PC version of Silent Hill 2 compatible with modern hardware and playable in widescreen aspect ratios, while improving visuals, audio, and bugs. Lighting levels have been restored to their original values to correctly brighten environments and dynamic objects.

Scaled Cutscenes

Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition scales cutscenes to match their original 4:3 horizontal compositions when played in widescreen, up to a 16:9 aspect ratio. This hides any visual anomolies when played in widescreen.

Scaled Cutscenes

When playing in widescreen, scaled cutscenes hide incorrect visuals such as "frozen" characters you were never meant to see, that are supposed to be just out of frame.

Softer Shadows

Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition maintains softer shadows at higher rendering resolutions.

Fog complexity, density, and speed is restored for Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition.

Per-Pixel Lighting

Per-pixel lighting creates round and smooth lighting effects, as seen in Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition.

Preserved Environment Visuals

For Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition, chunks of the environment stay visible when the camera is close to them, when played in a widescreen aspect ratio.

Camera Adjustments

Stationary cameras have been adjusted in Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition to prevent the camera from clipping into walls at certain angles, when playing in widescreen up to a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Maintain Image Aspect Ratio

Full screen images maintain their original aspect ratios, when played in widescreen, for Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition. This prevents image stretching/distortion.

Maintain Menu Aspect Ratio/High Resolution Font

Menus maintain their original aspect ratios, when played in widescreen, for Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition. And a high resolution font makes for improved legibility and presentation.

Texture Mapping

Correct texture mapping is accounted for in Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition.

Increased Draw Distance

The front draw distance for Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition is increased to hide the environment loading into frame. (Images brightened to better illustrate.)

The system requirements above are estimates based for 1080 resolution gameplay. Newer hardware may be required if playing at higher resolutions (such as 4K) or if using certain forms of anti-aliasing.
